What is a wooden mold?

Also called a "wooden mold" or "last," this is the base "mold" on which the shoe is made.

When making shoes, this "last" is covered with a piece of leather called the "vamp" or "upper" that is sewn together according to the pattern.
The leather is attached to the wooden last with strong force and glued in place, and the leather is tapped to fit the last while preventing wrinkles.
Then, we apply heat to soften the leather and leave it for 1-2 days while cooling and stabilizing it. Finally, we nail the heels.
The shoe is completed when the sole is attached. If the wooden shoe tree fits you, the shoes will be comfortable to wear without any discomfort on your feet.
If you wear shoes that have a wooden last that does not fit your feet at all, you may develop blisters or find it painful to wear them for long periods of time.

For example, the products below have the same wooden mold but different designs.
Even if the design is different, we often hear that the shoes are easy to wear if the last fits well.
That is why it is said that the shoe tree is the lifeblood of a shoe.
For this reason, MANA and Yuko Imanishi+ create new wooden lasts every season and are constantly researching ways to create designs that fit comfortably.
